Kabayenga SDA Primary School, Kabayenga Village, Maanyi Sub county.

The school has 100 students, 43 boys and 57 girls. The School had one pit latrine that was being used by boys, girls and teachers. However, this caved in because of heavy rain and poor construction. The new latrines are being used by both learners and teachers. The learners are 100 while the teachers and administration staff are 8.

Ssemugenze Michael – Head Master, Kabayenga SDA Primary School

“Before the construction of this new latrine, we had an old 5 stance latrine. This however caved in due to heavy rain and poor construction. It was a total challenge for us, we called the district support us in construct a new one but we were told they are no funds and advised to improvise. How do you improvise on something that has caved in? Mr. Ssemugenze wondered. During this time, we had to use the church latrine which is some metres away which was quite inconveniencing for the church with the way young learners behave.”

When district told us to improvise, I called Action 4 Health Uganda after hearing they were supporting schools in construction of latrines and that is how we managed to get one for our school.

Everybody is happy with the new facilities. It has a section for boys and girls. It has made life easy for both learners and teachers. We don’t have to inconvenience the church anymore. The community and everybody appreciates the new latrines.
