Dive Brief:
- Nonprofit NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health will rebrand as Endeavor Health, nearly two years after the merger of the Chicago-area systems closed, the provider announced on Tuesday.
- The health system’s hospitals will keep their names, but will operate under the Endeavor brand, according to a press release.
- Brand channels and communications, including websites, signs and uniforms, will shift to the new name in the coming months. A new ad campaign will launch in the first quarter of next year.
Dive Insight:
The health system includes nine hospitals, operating in Northern and Western suburbs as well as the city’s North side, plus more than 300 hundred other sites of care, according to a fact sheet. The nonprofit employs more than 27,000 people, CEO J.P. Gallagher said in a statement.
Endeavor reported $1.4 billion in revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30, an 8% increase from the same period last year. The health system posted $8.2 million in income from operations compared with a $39.2 million loss during the prior year period.
NorthShore acquired multiple hospitals in the years leading up its merger, including Swedish Covenant Health in 2020 and Northwest Community Healthcare in 2021.
The deal that created Endeavor closed in January 2022, creating the state’s third-largest health system.
The system also attempted to combine with local system Advocate Health Care, but the deal fell through in 2017 after regulators scrutinized the merger. Advocate later merged with Wisconsin-based Aurora Health Care, and that combined system closed a $27 billion deal with North Carolina-based Atrium Health last year.
