TruMont has released its New Graduate RN Resident Apprenticeship retention statistics. With a 62-hospital healthcare system reporting 93% of RN Residents still working at their facilities, this is a major step in the company’s pursuit of aiding hospitals in stabilizing their nursing workforce through nurturing the transition to practice experience.
Considering some studies have found 20-30% of new nurses leave their jobs in the first year, TruMont is ushering in a new era of healthcare practice. Nursing apprenticeships have proven to make an impact on the quality of care delivered by improving the practice of novice nurses and developing them into well-skilled clinical practitioners prepared to take ownership of their practice. Across 19 states, the 592 active RN Residents enrolled in the program have gained clinical and cultural competence that is being applied to every specialty in nursing. Including Medical-Surgical/Acute Care, Critical Care, Emergency, Behavioral Health, Women’s Health, Rehabilitation, Cath Lab, and Surgical Services.
“We saw a need for nurses to be better prepared for their clinical practice with greater patient empathy. The vision for TruMont was generated from the Future of Nursing report suggesting new graduate nurses need guidance and support throughout the first year of practice to become proficient in basic clinical judgment, feel comfortable communicating in a healthcare world, think critically and apply skills, integrate into the care team, and advocate for their patients. The TruMont RN New Graduate Apprenticeship was created from this research, and it is now overwhelmingly supported by the data. Looking forward, TruMont will have Specialty Fellowships to support the new graduate nurse’s growth into an expert nurse.” -Nina Perez, Co-Founder
Participants have reported that the interactive self-paced modules empower nurses with direct application of evidence-based practices alongside an opportunity for self-reflection. Apprenticeships create synergy among hospital staff by developing new talent, strengthening existing talent, and fostering resilience among all. Investing in apprenticeships creates a cost-benefit to hospitals by increasing facility retention, decreasing use of premium-cost labor, and improving patient outcomes.
