Name: Amar Desai
Previous title: President, healthcare delivery, CVS Health
New title: Executive-in-residence, UnitedHealth
Just six months after leaving UnitedHealth to join CVS, Desai is back at UnitedHealth as a senior adviser to its CEO Andrew Witty, according to the executive’s LinkedIn.
Desai was tapped in October to lead CVS’s newly created healthcare delivery division, which includes CVS’ clinical delivery strategy in retail health, chronic disease management and behavioral health. The division works to link different aspects of CVS’ portfolio to develop payer-agnostic products and services.
Before joining CVS, Desai served as CEO of UnitedHealth’s Optum Pacific West, an integrated delivery network with more than 20,000 physicians. Before Optum, Desai was president of value-based medical group HealthCare Partners.
A UnitedHealth spokesperson told Healthcare Dive that Desai will advise Witty and the company’s executive team on ongoing efforts to develop a consumer-focused health system. CVS did not respond to a request for comment about Desai’s departure.
