Name: Sean Martin
Previous title: Vice president of member programs, Oscar Health
New title: Chief medical officer, Oscar Health
Martin’s appointment as CMO is effective immediately, according to a Wednesday release from the New York-based insurer. He will be replacing Sameer Amin, who left Oscar in December to become the CMO of L.A. Care Health Plan, according to Amin’s LinkedIn.
Martin has been with Oscar since 2016, and has advanced within the company to provide clinical leadership across a number of functions, including medical management and population health, according to the release. Martin also oversaw the insurer’s Market Medical Officer team nationally.
As CMO, Martin will be responsible for implementing Oscar’s clinical capabilities and improving member outcomes, Oscar said.
Prior to joining the insurer, Martin worked at several digital health companies, including as CMO for patient care platform Seremedi and CEO at patient referral platform Medifr.
In February Oscar reported a $227 million loss in its most recent financial quarter off revenue of $995 million. The insurer has been reallocating resources and working to bring down the cost of care to reach profitability goals.
