On the heels of its market launch, medical device maker GE HealthCare has announced that longtime Amazon executive Taha Kass-Hout will join the company as its first CTO. Kass-Hout will work to align core R&D segments around precision care and shape technology investments to drive new research, products and growth, according to a Thursday release.
Kass-Hout will report to GE HealthCare CEO Peter Arduini, and work in partnership with GE HealthCare’s four business segments — imaging, ultrasound, patient care solutions and pharmaceutical diagnostics — along with engineering and machine learning teams.
GE HealthCare made its market debut on the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday, finalizing a spinoff from General Electric. Shares gained more than 10% over the day.
Before joining GE HealthCare, Kass-Hout led health AI strategy and technology at AWS for more than five years. He also worked as chief digital health and analytics officer at hospital operator Trinity Health and was the first chief health informatics officer at the Food and Drug Administration during the Obama administration.
“As a cardiologist, digital and ML expert, Taha has exceptional clinical and technology experience,” which will help him align science and research with product development, Arduini said in a statement.
