Name: Saranya Loehrer
Previous title: System vice president and health equity officer, CommonSpirit Health
New title: Chief health equity officer, Teladoc
Virtual care giant Teladoc named Loehrer as its inaugural chief health equity officer on Monday. Loehrer will direct the New York-based company’s health equity strategy and aim to ensure its suite of healthcare products are targeted towards all people, the vendor said in a release.
That includes making Teladoc’s care offerings available in more languages, hiring racially and ethnically diverse providers and coaches and expanding the amount of demographic and ethnographic data Teladoc collects, so that it can better identify and address health disparities, according to the release.
Loehrer previously served as nonprofit system CommonSpirit’s first-ever health equity officer, from July through December 2021, per her LinkedIn.
Before that, the executive led healthcare transformation efforts at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, a nonprofit that focuses on improvement in science and patient safety, for over a decade. Loehrer has also worked for Physicians for Human Rights and co-founded the Civic Health Alliance.
Loehrer will report to Teladoc Chief Medical Officer Vidya Raman-Tangella, who was appointed in April.
