Name: Gagan Singh
Old title: Chief data officer, Ascension
New title: Chief information officer, Ascension
Singh, who shared the news via LinkedIn, has been with Ascension since 2019. The executive came onboard at the St. Louis-based system as chief data officer before being promoted to senior vice president and CIO this month.
As CIO, Singh will helm Ascension's technologies team and build out its data exchange and IT infrastructure along with new tech applications in an effort to improve Ascension's medical and administrative operations.
During his time as CDO, the executive established Ascension's clinical and business data management approach, and made those assets more available for analytics, reporting and information exchange, according to his bio with the system.
Singh also established a data governance operating model, enterprise master patient index and adaptive claims warehouse for analytics.
Before joining Ascension — one the largest nonprofit health systems in the U.S., with 142 hospitals — Singh was at global insurer Zurich for over a decade in various leadership roles in the areas of data management and enterprise architecture.
Singh is replacing Gerry Lewis, who during his time as CIO oversaw layoffs and the outsourcing of tech support in Ascension's technologies team.
An Ascension representative did not respond to multiple requests for comment on why Lewis is departing. Lewis has yet to update his LinkedIn to reflect his departure, and the system has yet to issue a press release on the CIO change.
