Name: Vidya Raman-Tangella
New title: Chief medical officer at Teladoc, the largest telehealth company in the U.S.
Previous title: General manager of healthcare and life sciences solutions, Amazon Web Services
Raman-Tangella will lead enterprise clinical strategy, quality and research at Teladoc, focusing particularly on health equity, clinical evidence, best practice and physician training at the virtual care vendor, Teladoc said in a statement Monday.
The executive will work across teams, including engineering and product, on new products. Teladoc's CMO role has sat vacant since its previous medical officer, Bimal Shah, left the company earlier this year to start rural value-based care startup Homeward.
Raman-Tangella has worked in the industry for more than two decades, focusing on leveraging science and technology to create new models, products and tools aimed at disease prevention and personalized patient experiences, according to New York-based Teladoc.
Raman-Tangella joins Teladoc from Amazon subsidiary AWS, where she led strategy for healthcare solutions.
Prior to that, she held leadership roles at a number of healthcare companies, including director of innovation at Johnson & Johnson and chief medical officer at conversational AI startup HIA, per LinkedIn. From 2011 to 2017, Raman-Tangella designed and piloted new integrated health and wellness solutions for employers and health plans for UnitedHealthcare.
The new role, in which she reports to Teladoc CEO Jason Gorevic, is effective immediately.
