Name: Sanjeev Sah
Previous title: SVP, IT strategy and cyber, CommonSpirit Health
New title: Chief information security officer, Novant Health
Sah began his new cyber leadership role on Monday at the Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based health system after more than three years at CommonSpirit Health, according to a LinkedIn post.
He previously held technology and cybersecurity positions at the Medical University of South Carolina, Texas Children’s Hospital and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana.
In his most recent position at CommonSpirit, a large system that operates facilities in 24 states, Sah managed multiyear cyber plans, developed an information security office and led efforts to improve cybersecurity, according to a press release from Novant.
The new cyber appointment comes about a month after Novant made several changes to its executive team, including appointing a new chief operating officer, chief administrative officer, and chief digital and information officer.
Cybersecurity has become a significant challenge for health systems. Cyberattacks against the U.S. healthcare sector increased 128% from 2022 to 2023, according to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Federal regulators released voluntary cybersecurity goals for healthcare organizations early this year. The Biden administration also proposed funding for hospitals to boost their cyber preparedness — and teased mandatory standards.
