TeamUp Uganda (2022-2026) is a cross-sectoral approach in Agriculture, Water and Health. The program was scaled up after successfully implementing the Pilot phase from 2018-2021. As in the Pilot phase, the program brings together three local implementing partnerorganisations: Action 4 Health Uganda (A4HU)-Health, Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS)-Agriculture andWhave Solutions-Water. The implementing partners pool theirexpertise in their respective fields to reach young people aged 15 – 30 and their families inMityana andKassanda Districts, Central Uganda.TeamUp Uganda usesa holistic approach that integrates socio-economic, health, educational and infrastructural aspects to reach 50,000 in-school and out-of-school youth.
The program aims to provide ‘improved livelihood prospects for young people in rural East Africa’ by improving their access to safe, fully functional water services, sanitation, safe hygiene practices, gender-friendly sexual and reproductive health information and services, enhanced entrepreneurial and technical skills, financial services, resources, and markets. The services offered are diverse and interwoven, ensuring that the recipients benefit optimally, become self-determined, and, in the long run, can take conscious decisions about leading a healthy and self-determined life, improving their economic situation and making their voices heard.
TeamUp is co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung (DSW), Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung and Siemens Stiftung.
Thematic areas:
· Improving health with a particular focus on SRHR on specific problems related to water, sanitation and hygiene that impede youth development.
· Improving the economic situation of youth and their families through agribusiness and entrepreneurship support.
· Enabling youth to make their voices heard in decision-making processes.
Program Outcomes:
· Ensuring that students in 40 targeted schools have access to improved sanitation facilities and students in 40 targeted schools have basic knowledge of hygiene and health.
· Targeted youth have improved their economic situation.
· Targeted youth, emphasising female youth, making their voices heard and influencing decisions that affect their lives.
Program Activities:
· Providing young people in target schools with improved sanitation facilities and basic hygiene knowledge.
· Training peer facilitators on SRHR and life skills.
· Providing community peer learning sessions facilitated by peer facilitators.
· Facilitating cascading activities for peer educators to provide SRHR information to peers.
· Creation of Youth Farmer Field Schools (YFFS) to facilitate the move to improve agribusiness in the target areas.
· To provide water maintenance and management training to ensure sustainable water infrastructure in the target area.
· To engage youth in undertaking climate change resilience and good agricultural practices.
· To ensure synergetic activities to create a well-rounded inspired youth who “define their future”.
